  • A Plan

    P8150206

Some people may perceive this as cruel...but Hal is right, I can't afford to feed that smart squirrel and all its friends.  I moved the feeder closer to the end of the roof and slathered it with crisco.  Don't know if it will work or not....but I am camera ready!  I'll keep you posted.

  • Oh oops!! Wild ride ahead!

  • YOU made me laugh. I can just imagine the Crisco effect.

  • Go for it!!  ~hh

  • It looks  like you are on line now. Skype me.

  • HaHaHaHa... This is a little bit unconventional, but will probably work.

Squirrels are cute but they can be pests. I used to have a neighbor that would feed apples to the squirrels right in between our houses. The squirrels eventually decided that they could store a LOT of nuts in my attic. I discovered this at about 3:00 AM one morning as a squirrel went ballistic bouncing around like a superball in my attic. Literally bouncing around from one end of the house to the other.

I discovered the next morning that they had chewed a quarter-sized hole in the eaves of my house to set up house up there. So I decided to find a way to get rid of them.

Unlike my father who barricaded himself under our house on Main Street one Sunday afternoon with a pellet gun and a promise that "It's me or that cat! Only one of us is coming out alive!", I decided to figure out a humane way to drive off the squirrels.

After some unsuccessful attempts with a "live trap" and some peanut butter, I found a solution on the internet... fox urine. Yes, I said it. Fox Urine.

I went down to the local feed store and bought a bottle of fox urine for a few bucks. Who knew that you could buy animal pee? Not me!

Well, I doused a couple of cotton balls and put them in a zip bag with holes poked in it and scattered them around up near the entry point. Oh, I also doused the roof around the area they were getting in. I never heard from the squirrels again.

I have heard that getting critters out of your homestead can be difficult, but now that I know the secret, it's as easy as cake.

Got a bigger critter you need to get rid of? Right there on the shelf next to the fox urine was a bottle of . . . lion urine. Well I just wanted to get rid of them, not give them a heart attack right there in my attic!

  • That is so funny!  I would never have thought of that one!  They have definitely provided me with some amusement.  Thanks for the story

  • BTW.....will the wolf urine run the birds off too????

  • I solved the squirls getting the bird food (mine hangs from a pole in the back yard) with valoline and red pepper. Just mix the two and grease the pole. You should see the squirles right after they try to climb the pole.
